Whether you prefer living in the city or the suburbs, you will find pros and cons to each. Stereotypically, city living is associated with those that are single while suburban life is considered to be preferred by families.
One of the main reasons that many feel that the suburbs is a better place for families is less noise. The city is considered a noisy place overall, with more crime and chaos. The suburbs and the country are considered an excellent place to get away from the noise and crime of the city.
Suburban life also is considered to have fewer distractions than the city. Distractions such as social clubs, theaters, and malls cause families to spend less time together than they would in the suburbs or country. However, being isolated from culture can make those that grow up in the country less outgoing.
It can also be considered an advantage to some to be in such close proximity to clubs, theaters, and malls. Since cities usually have public transportation, those living in the city can get to cultural establishments with little effort. However, those living in the suburbs or country have to utilize private transportation to experience such cultural events.
The city generally has vast opportunities for employment as well as social activities. Whether you are looking to shop, see a movie, or dine at a unique restaurant, you can generally find many opportunities for such things in the city. This is commonly why city life is preferred by single individuals or young couples.
